Dr. Peter Pointner (61) studied Technical Physics at the Technical University in Graz (Austria) till 1973. Since that time he is employee of the voestalpine AG in Leoben/Donawitz in various departments. Starting in the Research and Development department he now is with the Technology-Department of voestalpine Schienen GmbH since 1994. In 1991 he finished a thesis on the University for Mining and Metallurgy in Leoben. The theme was “A Separating Temperature in the Temperature Region of Bainitic Transformations in Steel”. Peter Pointner was and is mayor contributor to the development of new rail-steels; among them the head-hardened grade HSH and most recently bainitic rail-steels.
